Compare / Product analytics

Amplitude shows what users did. grovs also brings them in and back.

Amplitude is product analytics in Amplitude's cloud. grovs puts deep links, analytics, push, in-app and journeys behind one SDK, in your cloud or ours.

The differences, in short.

01

Acquisition built in

Deep links, deferred deep links and QR codes, with every install tied to the link that brought it. Amplitude starts once the app is open.

02

Act on what you see

Send push notifications and journeys to the audiences you build, from the same tool. Amplitude does not send push.

03

Your cloud, flat price

Run grovs in AWS, Azure, GCP or your data center on a flat yearly price. Amplitude runs in its own cloud, or inside your Snowflake account, and is priced by usage.

What each one has that the other doesn't.

No tool does everything. Here's the honest list, both ways.

Amplitude has, grovs doesn't

  • Deep behavioural analysis built for dedicated analytics teams
  • Session replay
  • Heatmaps
  • Data governance tools for large event catalogues

grovs has, Amplitude doesn't

  • Deep links and deferred deep links
  • Smart banners and QR codes
  • Push notifications
  • Journeys across push, in-app and email
  • Open-source core

  1. 1

App Store and Google Play purchase validation. Amplitude verifies App Store and Google Play receipts on mobile and logs verified revenue events.

  2. 2

Self-hosted in your cloud. Amplitude can run as a Snowflake Native App inside your Snowflake account. It can't be self-hosted in AWS, Azure, GCP or your data centre.

  3. 3

Events written to your own database. Amplitude exports raw events to S3, GCS, Snowflake, BigQuery and Redshift, and can query data already in your warehouse.

Partial: some of it, with limits. Export: you can get the data out, but it isn't written to your database as it happens.

Compare costs for your app size

Which one fits.

Amplitude is good at what it does. Here is an honest split.

Choose Amplitude if
  • You need deep behavioural analysis, session replay and a dedicated analytics team on one tool.
  • Your product is web-first and you don't need deep links or push.
Choose grovs if
  • You want links, analytics and messaging behind one SDK.
  • You need to self-host in AWS, Azure, GCP or your own data centre.
  • You'd rather pay one flat price than per user or per event.

Migration plan

Moving from Amplitude.

Your tracking is most of the work, and it moves with the SDK.

Stays with Amplitude

  • Historical data (export it first)
  • Session replay, if you use it

You'll need

  • An app release with the grovs SDK

Moves to grovs

  • Events and properties

The same names, mapped one to one, from the day the SDK goes live

  • User IDs

Your own IDs, so the same people match in both tools while you compare

  • Reports and dashboards

Rebuilt in grovs: the ones your team actually opens

Going back: Nothing to roll back: both run side by side until you remove the old SDK.

The steps

Your teamgrovsTogether
  1. 1

    Map your tracking plan

List the events and properties you send to Amplitude.

    How it works

Most map one to one; we flag any that don't.

    Together
  2. 2

Add the grovs SDK next to it

Send the same events to both while you move.

    How it works

    Nothing is switched off.

    Your team
  3. 3

    Rebuild the reports you use

Retention, cohorts and dashboards, from events in your own database.

    How it works

Rebuild the ones people actually open, not all of them.

    Your team
  4. 4

    Check the numbers match

Run both for a few weeks and compare daily users and key events.

    How it works

    We help explain any gaps.

    Together
  5. 5

    Remove the Amplitude SDK

In a later release, once the team works in grovs.

Plan the move with an engineer.

A call with an engineer who has done it before. You leave with a plan, not a sales pitch.

What the call covers

  • Your current setup: SDKs, link domains, events and campaigns
  • What moves, what you'd keep, and in what order
  • Anything that needs an app release, so you can plan it
  • A written plan afterwards, with the steps and who does each

Questions, answered.

Something else? Talk to an engineer.

Can grovs replace Amplitude?

For most teams, yes. Check the table above for the features you rely on; where Amplitude has something grovs doesn't, it's marked.

What moves over from Amplitude?

Your tracking moves with the SDK, and you rebuild the reports and campaigns you use. History stays in Amplitude; export it if you need it.

Can we run grovs and Amplitude side by side?

Yes. Both SDKs can run in the same app while you move, so you can compare numbers before switching anything off.

How long does it take to move?

It depends mostly on your app release cycle: anything that touches links or push needs a new build, and users need to update before you switch. The migration plan above lists which steps need a release.

How does pricing compare with Amplitude?

grovs is free up to 10K monthly users, then a flat yearly price: $2,500 up to 250K and $12,000 up to 1M. Amplitude's pricing is usage-based.

Where does our data live?

On grovs Cloud, in the EU. Self-hosted, in your own cloud or data centre, in databases you run. grovs staff have no access to self-hosted data.
