Compare / Product analytics
Mixpanel measures your app. grovs measures it and moves it.
Mixpanel is event analytics in Mixpanel's cloud. grovs adds the links that bring users in and the messages that bring them back, in your cloud or ours.

What Mixpanel is
Behaviour inside the app.
Shows the steps people take in your app, where they drop off, and what keeps them.
- Built for
- Analytics teams
- Reports
- Events, cohorts, retention, paths
- Data goes to
- The vendor's cloud, priced by events
- Doesn't do
- Deep links, install attribution
The differences, in short.
Links that bring users in
Deferred deep links, smart banners and QR codes, attributed to the email, SMS or campaign that drove the install.
Messages that bring them back
Push, in-app messages and journeys to the segments you build. Mixpanel stopped offering messaging, so it needs another tool.
In your cloud, one price
Self-host grovs in AWS, Azure, GCP or on-prem, or use grovs Cloud. Mixpanel is cloud-only and priced by events.
What each one has that the other doesn't.
No tool does everything. Here's the honest list, both ways.
Mixpanel has, grovs doesn't
- Deep behavioural analysis and flexible reports
- Session replay
- Group (account-level) analytics
- Data governance tools for large event catalogues
grovs has, Mixpanel doesn't
- Deep links and deferred deep links
- Smart banners and QR codes
- Push notifications
- In-app messages and surveys
- Journeys across push, in-app and email
- App Store and Google Play purchase validation
- Self-hosted in your cloud
- Open-source core

Events written to your own database. Mixpanel's Data Pipelines add-on, on Growth and Enterprise, exports events to your warehouse or cloud storage. Not on the Free plan.
Partial: some of it, with limits. Export: you can get the data out, but it isn't written to your database as it happens.

Which one fits.
Mixpanel is good at what it does. Here is an honest split.
- Analytics is the only thing you need, and your team already lives in Mixpanel reports.
- You don't need deep links, push or in-app messages.
- You want to act on your analytics, not just read it.
- You need links and attribution for owned channels like email, SMS and QR.
- Your security team needs the data in your own infrastructure.
Migration plan
Moving from Mixpanel.
Your tracking is most of the work, and it moves with the SDK.
Stays with Mixpanel
- Historical data (export it first)
- Session replay, if you use it
You'll need
- An app release with the grovs SDK
Moves to grovs
Events and properties
The same names, mapped one to one, from the day the SDK goes live
User IDs
Your own IDs, so the same people match in both tools while you compare
Reports and dashboards
Rebuilt in grovs: the ones your team actually opens
Going back: Nothing to roll back: both run side by side until you remove the old SDK.
The steps
- 1Together
Map your tracking plan
List the events and properties you send to Mixpanel.
TogetherHow it works
Most map one to one; we flag any that don't.
- 2Your team
Add the grovs SDK next to it
Send the same events to both while you move.
Your teamHow it works
Nothing is switched off.
- 3Your team
Rebuild the reports you use
Retention, cohorts and dashboards, from events in your own database.
Your teamHow it works
Rebuild the ones people actually open, not all of them.
- 4Together
Check the numbers match
Run both for a few weeks and compare daily users and key events.
TogetherHow it works
We help explain any gaps.
- 5Your team
Remove the Mixpanel SDK
In a later release, once the team works in grovs.

Plan the move with an engineer.
A call with an engineer who has done it before. You leave with a plan, not a sales pitch.
What the call covers
- Your current setup: SDKs, link domains, events and campaigns
- What moves, what you'd keep, and in what order
- Anything that needs an app release, so you can plan it
- A written plan afterwards, with the steps and who does each

Can grovs replace Mixpanel?
For most teams, yes. Check the table above for the features you rely on; where Mixpanel has something grovs doesn't, it's marked.
What moves over from Mixpanel?
Your tracking moves with the SDK, and you rebuild the reports and campaigns you use. History stays in Mixpanel; export it if you need it.
Can we run grovs and Mixpanel side by side?
Yes. Both SDKs can run in the same app while you move, so you can compare numbers before switching anything off.
How long does it take to move?
It depends mostly on your app release cycle: anything that touches links or push needs a new build, and users need to update before you switch. The migration plan above lists which steps need a release.
How does pricing compare with Mixpanel?
grovs is free up to 10K monthly users, then a flat yearly price: $2,500 up to 250K and $12,000 up to 1M. Mixpanel's pricing is per event.
Where does our data live?
On grovs Cloud, in the EU. Self-hosted, in your own cloud or data centre, in databases you run. grovs staff have no access to self-hosted data.
