Compare / Analytics and engagement

Both run in your cloud. Only grovs starts at the link.

Countly is self-hostable analytics and engagement. grovs covers the same ground and adds deep links and owned-channel attribution, on published flat pricing.

What Countly is

Analytics plus messaging.

Product analytics with push and in-app, in their cloud or yours.

Built for
Analytics and messaging in one tool
Reports
Events, retention, crashes

Doesn't do
Deep links or deferred deep links

The differences, in short.

01

Deep links included

Deferred deep links, custom domains, smart banners and QR codes are part of grovs. Countly does not offer a deep-linking product.

02

Every install has a source

grovs ties each install to the email, SMS, letter or QR link that drove it, so retention and revenue show by channel.

03

Prices you can read

Free to 10K monthly users, then flat yearly plans up to 1M, published on our pricing page. Above that, one flat licence with no metering.

What each one has that the other doesn't.

No tool does everything. Here's the honest list, both ways.

Countly has, grovs doesn't

  • Crash reporting
  • Performance monitoring
  • A plugin marketplace with years of add-ons

grovs has, Countly doesn't

  • Deep links and deferred deep links

  • App Store and Google Play purchase validation

  1. 1

Owned-channel attribution. Countly Enterprise has campaign links that attribute installs to campaigns. It has no deep links or deferred deep links.

  2. 2

Open-source core. Countly Lite is AGPL-3.0 with a branding clause. Most Enterprise features, like journeys and attribution, aren't open source.

  3. 3

Published pricing for self-hosted. Countly Lite is free and self-hosted. Enterprise self-hosted is quoted.

Partial: some of it, with limits. Export: you can get the data out, but it isn't written to your database as it happens.

Which one fits.

Countly is good at what it does. Here is an honest split.

Choose Countly if
  • You need crash reporting and performance monitoring in the same tool.
  • You already run years of Countly dashboards and plugins in production.
Choose grovs if
  • Deep links and deferred deep links matter to how you acquire users.
  • You want installs and revenue attributed to the channels you own.
  • You want a price on the website, not a quote.

Migration plan

Moving from Countly.

Your events, users and journeys move with the SDK.

Stays with Countly

  • Historical data (export it first)
  • Email and SMS sending

You'll need

  • An app release with the grovs SDK

Moves to grovs

  • Events and user traits

The same events and traits, from the day the SDK goes live

  • Segments

Rebuilt from those events, in your own database

  • Push audience

Devices register for push as users update to the new release

  • Journeys and in-app messages

Rebuilt one at a time, each checked against a control group

Going back: Nothing to roll back: both run side by side until you remove the old SDK.

The steps

Your teamgrovsTogether
  1. 1

Add the grovs SDK next to it

Send the same events and user traits to both while you move.

    Your team
  2. 2

    Rebuild your segments

Recreate the audiences your campaigns use, from events in your own database.

    Your team
  3. 3

    Let push tokens build up

The grovs SDK registers each device for push when the app opens with the new release.

    Your team
  4. 4

Move journeys one at a time

Start with one high-volume journey, run it against a control group, compare results, then move the next.

    Together
  5. 5

    Keep email where it is

If you send email or SMS through Countly, keep a sending provider for that.

    Your team

Plan the move with an engineer.

A call with an engineer who has done it before. You leave with a plan, not a sales pitch.

What the call covers

  • Your current setup: SDKs, link domains, events and campaigns
  • What moves, what you'd keep, and in what order
  • Anything that needs an app release, so you can plan it
  • A written plan afterwards, with the steps and who does each

Questions, answered.

Something else? Talk to an engineer.

Can grovs replace Countly?

For most teams, yes. Check the table above for the features you rely on; where Countly has something grovs doesn't, it's marked.

What moves over from Countly?

Your tracking moves with the SDK, and you rebuild the reports and campaigns you use. History stays in Countly; export it if you need it.

Can we run grovs and Countly side by side?

Yes. Both SDKs can run in the same app while you move, so you can compare numbers before switching anything off.

How long does it take to move?

It depends mostly on your app release cycle: anything that touches links or push needs a new build, and users need to update before you switch. The migration plan above lists which steps need a release.

How does pricing compare with Countly?

grovs is free up to 10K monthly users, then a flat yearly price: $2,500 up to 250K and $12,000 up to 1M. Countly's pricing is per mau, from $175 a month, analytics only.

Where does our data live?

On grovs Cloud, in the EU. Self-hosted, in your own cloud or data centre, in databases you run. grovs staff have no access to self-hosted data.

Your first link, live this afternoon.

Install the SDK, connect your domain and send a link that opens the right screen. Start free on grovs Cloud, or run the same stack in your own.
